Does your dog love the surf? How about really, really love to surf?
Well, this weekend you can take your beach-lovin’ pooch to the SurfinPaws Dog Jam, which will benefit the Orange County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
The event takes place from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday at Pacific Coach Highway and Goldenwest Street in Huntington Beach. (That’s the south end of Dog Beach.)
Registration is open to dogs of all ages, sizes and abilities, with a $25.50 per dog fee that goes to the OCSPCA. Red carpet spectator tickets are also available for $10.50 per person. The surf competition is open to the public and free for anyone to watch.
“This is Surf City USA; a surf competition for dogs is long overdue in Huntington Beach,” said René Bruce, the man behind the SurfinPaws Dog Jam.

About SurfinPaws
SurfinPaws was started by René Bruce in 2009. It was inspired by his dog Kia’s first surf competition that was put on by a friend of Bruce’s in Del Mar. Kia, a seven year-old Jack Russell Terrier, is the “spokesdog” of the event.
Kia has been riding boards, scooters and jet skis since she was a pup when, at 16 weeks, her paws hit a skateboard for the first time. Since then Kia, has been featured on various news sites, Reuters, Yahoo! and even National Geographic and The Discovery Channel. You can also find Kia on her Web site.
