So, we all know the brand name Clorox, right? Well, perhaps, like me, you didn’t connect the bleach maker with Fresh Step, the uber-popular litter brand.
Apparently Clorox is doing quite well with Fresh Step. Maybe you’re a fan?
The Clorox Co. of Oakland, Calif., reported that it shipped a record number of units of its Fresh Step cat litter during the first quarter of fiscal year 2010, which ended Sept. 30.
Blahblahblah …
All we really care about is the cat keep it all in the box, right?
I made the mistake of trying biodegradable pine pellets for my relatively young cats. Pass!
Noir and Lilly vetoed the lumpy nuggets and left me a mess just north of the box. Rather than waste the litter, I ran to the store to buy newfangled wheat-based litter and mixed it in with the pellets.
Better!
The cats were OK with the mixture, but eventually I stopped using both and reverted to the traditional clay-based clumping litter. Why? Price, for one, and The Cat Doc assured me that clay-based litter was quite safe for the average, non-allergic healthy cat.

We tried the pine pellets and our cats weren’t a fan either.
We also tried World’s Best Cat Litter.. I loved the way it worked, the anti-smell, plus it was very natural.. problems with that were: cats came out of the box covered in corn dust leaving paw prints everywhere! plus, one time while scooping, i noticed bugs flying out of the corn litter…
We’ve been back to Tidy Cat multi-cat ever since, and everyone’s happy!
I’m with you, Candi … The clay stuff is keeping us all happy, even if it’s a little cloudy on cleanup shifts!
My cats are doing fine with the pine pellets. One thing though is that the pellets break down into sawdust after absording the urine and when this happen, the tracking can be real bad.
I (and the cats!) prefer the pine. Most people don’t follow the steps to weening your cat off the old stuff (gradually change it….tells you on the bag). A little extra effort to keep fewer chemicals from my cats paws & face is worth it to me.
