All we can say here at Pet Tales is that we hope it was a quick and relatively painless end for Oreo, a pit bull that survived a 6-story fall from a building only to be euthanized for her aggressive behavior.
The plight of this pit bull mix is not uncommon. Abused, injured and troubled, the dog had little chance of a full recovery and a normal life.
Perhaps the efforts of dog lovers and animal advocates now can turn to the thousands of other unwanted dogs and cats waiting for new homes …
From The Associated Press:
A dog that survived being thrown off the roof of a Brooklyn building this summer has been euthanized, despite pleas from animal activists to spare her life.
The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals says the 1-year-old brown-and-white pit bull mix named Oreo was euthanized Friday. The ASPCA said that after working for months to rehabilitate Oreo, it determined she was too dangerous to ever be placed in a home or to live among other dogs. The decision sparked outrage among animal activists.
Authorities say Oreo suffered two broken legs when she was thrown off the roof June 18. Nineteen-year-old Fabian Henderson pleaded guilty to aggravated cruelty to animals and is to be sentenced. Neither he nor his attorney could be immediately reached for comment.

Recent animal news:
This news makes me so sad. But even more sad is to think about all the dogs, abused or not, aggressive or NOT, that don’t have a miracle story to grab headlines, who don’t even get that glimmer of hope, who are left by the thousands in shelters or worse, and ultimately find the same fate.
You’re right, Jess. Maybe we can help a few unfortunate pets this holiday season. We’ll be sharing more pet portraits at Faces in the Crowd, so stay tuned!
Cesar Milan would have been able to save him. This is terrible. I blame the owners. Thats what its really about. They failed.
Milan is a phoney. Don’t believe the hype.
I just read the comments and I take exception to a couple of points of view. Jess? You seem to be saying that either Oreo was lucky to have been thrown from that rooftop or that the tens of thousands of other homeless animals are unlucky for not having been,,,thrown off a building? I’m sure your intent was a positive.message. It just doesn’t read well. Oreo’s damage began a long time before her fall. She had been undergoing a torturous existence her whole life. Day after day and night after long night of physical and mental abuse that people like you and I can’t even imagine. Afraid to wake up and afraid to sleep.
Afraid to ask to be taken for a walk yet afraid to go in the floor. I’m sure that there’s a ton of other fears that she knew of as “her life” that would never even occur to us. That’s all “BEFORE” her fall. The damage done to her from the fall was her new torture. Multiple broken bones and cuts and scrapes. In short,,intense pain. To her it must have seemed like a lifetime of pain and suffering. Never ending agony.
Now I ask you. What was the point of healing her newest physical injuries and ignoring the older less visable mental wounds? She was used for her incredible story. Used by the New York ASPCA to drum up gifts and donations. When her usefulness was over and the time came to decide her fate the ASPCA was afraid to turn her over to any rescue. Afraid of a law suite. Oreo deserved so much more.
