Turkey poll: Vote on pardoned bird’s new name

tom-031Readers have weighed in on a new name for “tom,” a young turkey that lives a life of leisure at Centennial Farm.

The 20-pound bird won’t be landing on anyone’s Thanksgiving dinner table or any in the future. For as long as the big bird can carry his bulk around, he’ll live intact at the educational farm in Costa Mesa.

Some of the name suggestions from readers made us laugh; others were just plain ol’ appropriate:

  • Nixon
  • Nomayo
  • Not Today
  • Christmas Dinner
  • TommyTom
  • Big Ben! He has a presence about him much like that in England.
  • Tubba-Bubbaholiday-button-2
  • Lucky
  • Hambone
  • Bailey — after Jim Bailey, who helped create Centennial Farm

Ultimately, we had to choose just a few names for ya’ll to vote on, so here it goes:
