Fashion throwdown: Furry reindeer vs. velvet Chi’s

Well, it was just a matter of time, right?
Not everyone has dogs, so when the holidays roll around, the cats either run for the bed and wait it out, or they wind up like Saki and Tokyo, two lovely Tonkinese kitties.
Saki and Tokyo live in Anaheim Hills and are owned by Joe, Denise, Ryan, and Jamieson Deacy.
The family writes: Both cats are wearing reindeer costumes by Target. Tired of sleeping at the end of their parents bed, both would really like there own grand cat bed for the holidays.
Not to be outdone by a couple cats in cute hats, the pups of Mission Viejo donned their best Santa gear for their photo spotlight. Linda, their owner, writes:

- Below, left: Cujo wears his Santa costume, and Mary Jane is wearing her red velvet Christmas dress.
- Below, right: Teddy is wearing her red velvet Christmas dress.
- For Christmas they want a pet cat.
Well, of course they do! Something tells us Saki and Tokyo are not going there …

HAHA!! Unfortunately for me, my cats DON’T sleep at the base of the bed, but ALL over the bed, leaving me with a sliver of space to try to sleep on.
And there is NO WAY my felines would be caught dead in those get-ups. I can’t even get them to wear collars!
I saw these photos arrive in my inbox, Logic, and laughed quite hard. My cats would scratch my eyes out before they let me do this … It’s hard enough getting them to take a pill … sigh.
Everytime I try to dress up my cat, she keel over and lays there like a dead cockroach. It kinda take the thrill out of dressing her up.
I tried a simple bandanna on my most docile of cats … and she did the same thing, Sunshine … She lay there … Didn’t budge, just stared at me like I’d cut her feet off … I relented … Gotta love our stalwart cats, eh?

Aw come on Samantha, no comment on those adorable Chihuahuas? I can’t get my dog to tolerate having something put on her nor less sitting up and looking pretty?
Sasha, the Chi’s are indeed adorable … The response to the cats was as you can expect, different! It’s not every day you see a cat in clothes. But the dogs, yes.
Samantha - gee, a cat owner talking about cats? As the editor you should either remain neutral or make comments about the dogs as well.
Getting dogs to behave in outfits is not as easy as it looks!
Let’s have some fun here, Leni, OK? It’s not a serious (and hopefully not too sensitive) subject, dressing pets in outfits, so I’ll refrain from being super serious as the editor. Kudos to any pet owner who gets their pet into clothing. Seeing cats in costume is just a lot more rare than our pups, mine included! Just wanted to share some love for the cats out there, since we do get a LOT of dog posts here at Pet Tales.
Fun is good Samantha but considering the poll is dogs vs cats and you have made several comments about how different and great that their owners got them in a hat. It does appear biased.
Gee, as I recall I saw more than a few cats in the Halloween contest so it is not unheard of…

I thought I saw more than a few cats with costumes (not just hats) in the Halloween contest last month.
Saying that it is rare to see a cat in a costume looks like you are playing favorites.

Samantha is absolutely correct! I am a dog and cat owner, and it is nearly impossible for cats to cooperate in a manner as that of a dog. Half the time they’ll attempt to scratch your eyes out if they get freaked, especially in a car! The proof is in the pudding.. if cats were as cooperative as dogs then they to would get a Taco Bell commercial, or be on Fraiser. Most of the time they get a split second cameo in a food commercial. Cats are rough, but great pets! Go Tonks!
wow.. i’m really shocked (or maybe I shouldn’t be?) at the comments from people on here. This is just good old fashioned dress up your pets fun and people are taking this WAY too seriously.
The thought of Samantha being called biased makes me angry, because she’s doing so much for this column and our pet community.. grow up people!
