Pets of the week: Kiki, Chloe and Clyde need you

adoptkikichloeWe’ve got three pets in need of a home this week.

Siamese mix Kiki and calico Chloe are two cats that need to be the only kitty in their respective new homes.

Kiki and Chloe’s stories: Each of these cats came from a bad situation. Kiki needs a quiet home with no stress so he can relax. Chloe is very playful, spunky and affectionate, despite having been abandoned by her owners. Each needs to be the only cat in their home.

Patagonian mini-macaw Clyde was abandoned by former owner

adoptclydeClyde’s story: This unusual bird was abandoned by his former owner, who moved out of a rented room and never returned for him. His name is known, thanks to the landlord, but no background. Clyde’s disposition has proved to be sweet. When he came to the sanctuary, Clyde had picked most of his feathers – an indication of stress – and was quite unkempt. Following many showers, a good diet and lots of love, he has regrown at least half of his feathers and is shiny and beautiful. There’s no guarantee that all of his feathers will return, but the possibility is good.

Adopt us: Scout and Copper need you

Pets of the Week:

Border collie mix Scout (left photo): Family lost their home and had to give her up

  • Breed: border collie mix
  • Sex: spayed female
  • Age: 4 years
  • Size: 65 pounds
  • Scout’s story: Scout was relinquished by her owners, who lost their home and had to move. She has been at the Mission Viejo Animal Shelter since April 3. She gets along very well with other dogs and would prefer a home without children, although older, calmer kids would be fine. She thinks the world is a bit scary, but once she gets to know you, she is a wonderful dog. She walks really nicely on leash and enjoys walks. She likes love and attention and will repay both 10 times over.
  • Adoption fee: $165
  • Adoption procedure: Visit or call the Mission Viejo Animal Shelter, 28095 Hillcrest, Mission Viejo, CA 92692 or 949-470-3045. Application and adoption interview required.
  • Also: The shelter’s 15th annual Dawg Walk and Pet Faire to benefit the animals at the facility will be held June 27. Registration brochures for the walk are available at the shelter. Pet Faire admission is free.


Cocker spaniel Copper: Former family neglected this beautiful boy

  • Breed: cocker spaniel
  • Age: about 2 years
  • Sex: neutered male
  • Size: about 20 pounds
  • Copper’s story: Copper’s last family neglected him terribly; he wasn’t groomed or cleaned and was left to live in the back yard. The family didn’t even want to bring Copper to the rescue because they were afraid he would get their car dirty. This beautiful chocolate-and-tan boy is very forgiving, however. He is sweet and easy-going, one of the sweetest dogs the volunteers at Pups and Pals have ever known. He is groomed now, knows some commands, and is ready for a permanent home where he will be treated as he should be. He has limited eyesight, but that doesn’t stop him from getting along very well. He does well with other dogs and all people. Like most cockers, he is pretty active and enjoys walks and exploring new places.
  • Adoption fee: $200, includes deworming, microchip and vaccinations.
