Cat plus cop makes for lively traffic stop

Curiosity definitely got the best of this cat.

A Texas police officer had his patience tested Tuesday by a friendly feline. The officer was writing a routine speeding ticket when curiosity appears to overcome the cat, who climbs up the officer’s leg, his vest and eventually onto his head.

We admire the officer’s restraint. And our hats are off to the friendly farmer who clearly loves his cat!

Pet Tales takes ride in dog friendly Honda Element

Fellow blogger, friend and dog owner Matt Degen invited me along to see the new dog friendly Honda Element.

We got first crack at the car, which has cool add-ons for folks who take Fido on the road.

Matt and I headed to Brea where we picked up his adorable mutt, Parbar, and hit the road for a quick demo.

Overall, the car is the typical Element: boxy, economical, and sturdy. As a passenger riding shotgun, I was comfortable and enjoyed sitting up higher than my own four-door sedan.

Parbar rode in the rear-compartment crate with no complaint.

Dog Whisperer wants to meet your problem dog

October 1st, 2009, 12:28 pm by Samantha Gowen, Pet Tales editor

Dog owners with problem pups have another chance to seek help from Cesar Millan.

Producers with Millan’s television show, Dog Whisperer, will host auditions from 4 to 5 p.m.  Tuesday (Oct. 6) at Petco in Whittier.

The show held auditions in Huntington Beach and Buena Park in July.

To be considered for the show, you MUST create a 5-7 minute video. In the video, tell the producers a little about yourself and be sure to show at least 3 instances of your dog’s bad, quirky, or phobic behavior.

Producers ask owners of aggressive dogs to keep them on a leash, in a muzzle, or behind a fence to prevent injuring any people or animals in the process of making the video.

Speaking of dogs, have you visited My Dog’s Face photo contest today? You still have time to upload your dog’s portrait and get voting.

Note: Owners should NOT bring their aggressive dogs to the audition.

Audition submissions cannot be accepted without a video. Find out more information and print release forms at cesarmillaninc.com.

Producers, not Cesar Millan, will interview each dog owner for a few minutes inside the Petco store as part of the audition process.

Google map: The Petco is located at 13420 Whittier Boulevard, Whittier, CA 90605.

They came dressed in bright vests that read, “Adopt me.”

websaunders-kendrick-dogsOrange County Animal Care brought a posse of four-legged friends Saturday to Angel Stadium  for the second annual “Angels for Animals” event that aimed to raise money and awareness to the plight of homeless pets.

The Angels collected an impressive $27,085.

The wives of baseball players host the fundraiser along with OCAC. Through the sale of “mystery” bags with signed baseballs and raffle tickets, money is raised for the shelter, which in turn discounts adoption fees for prospective pet owners. Proceeds from the event also go to the Angels Baseball Foundation.

For anyone who didn’t make the game, you can visit the animal shelter seven days a week. For more information about hours and pets available for adoption, call 714-935-6848 or visit the shelter’s Web site at http://egov.ocgov.com.
